Examination Phobia Essay

Students prepare for the examinations days and months in advance. The day of the examination is always awaited with a mixed feeling. There is a fear of facing a tough paper and there is also a sense of relief to know that once the papers are over, there can be enough time to play and enjoy.

Outside the exam hall students hold on to their books, notes and pencil boxes. They are seen pacing up and down the corridors trying to absorb as much as they can from their books upto the last minute. Some students read loudly while others prefer to sit silently in a corner and concentrate on their notes. Some students are seen discussing questions with classmates. Some faces show panic and fear, others show composure and confidence.

Once the students enter the exam hall they surrender all their books and notes to their teachers. There is lot confusion as they try to locate their roll numbers on seats. The invigilators usually guide the students to their seats and soon order is restored in the class room. The examiners and invigilators advice the students to remain silent while the examination is on. As time passes, students keep a close watch on watches. Even the invigilators keep warning the students about the time.

If any student is found copying or seen resorting to unfair means, the principal is asked to intervene. He/she is disallowed to take the examination and sent away to the principal's office.

Once the examinations start, there is silence in the room and the students are seen concentrating on writing. Invigilators move between rows of chairs and keep watch over the students. Even they get tired along with the students at the end of three hours. Everyone heaves a sigh of relieve once the period is over.


Nobody likes exams!! 
Almost every student is afraid of exams & feel nervousness in writing exams. This brings a kind of fear & leads to anxiety.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Examinations are always stressful.  We cannot expect what is coming in exam & what is not. Many negative happenings take place when exams enter the student's life. Student becomes nervous, tensed & unhealthy because of such environment. They face problems in preparing for exams, physical problems like memory failure during exam; fast heartbeat, vomit, stomach ache, etc are the symptoms which your body feels when you face examination. 

There are some reasons why a student feel all these symptoms while writing exams: 

   Fresher: A Student newly entered in class feels uncomfortable. New environment makes him depressed that how he is going to mix up with old fellows & new teachers. That can be a one reason which leads to nervousness in exams. 

"¢    Academic problems: May be introduction of new course Or complicated study material are also major problems of anxiety.

"¢   Wrong study techniques: Sometime new faculty is introduced in the mid of the session & students becomes unfamiliar & uncomfortable with their teaching techniques. That makes their concept unclear. 

"¢   Performance pressure: Our parents can also be a big reason of students getting too much tensed for their examinations. Parents pressurize them to perform extremely well in exams & in that immense pressure, academic performance gets affected.  Sometimes even students also feel anxiety when they study to compete in exams. They feel the fear of losing in the competition. 

"¢    Personal problems: What you face at your home, what you see around you, what you face in your life that affects your academic life. If you have a good & healthy living style & happy life, you'll be able to focus on your studies.

Tips to overcome the exam phobia: 

"¢    Develop good study habits. Study on time rather than studying last moment. It increases study pressure. 

"¢    Prepare well before exams. Do not panic. Make sure you practice as much as you can.

"¢    Avoid people who de-motivate you in exams. They will make you more tensed. Be with good gang who'll cheer you up even in tensed environment. 

"¢    Revise properly before exam. Do not panic at last moment thinking that you have lost all what you studied last night. 

"¢    Sleeping on time is necessary. Take complete 6-8hours to sleep to avoid restlessness. 

"¢    In examination hall, Read questions properly & then write, do not rush during exams just to complete it. 

Every student think of deleting examination criteria from their academic lives but Self-analysis is important also to check where you stand. Anxiety kills the faith to fight exams. There is nothing to fear.
