I specialize in helping students from public and independent high schools, both here in Seattle and nationally, craft great college admission essays. With coaching and guidance the personal essay is a college applicant's best chance to tell their own unique story. I offer private essay writing tutoring that begins with concept discussions and includes constructive reviews of all drafts necessary to complete the all-important personal college admissions essay.
In the summer and fall, I offer small college essay writing classes (limited to 10 participants per session) where students receive individualized attention and emerge with one completed essay and guidelines for writing more. The workshops cover essay do's and don'ts, finding your voice, and strategies for parents on how to support their student in this demanding process,
Additional services include in-progress essay reviews; SAT/ACT Writing tutoring; and comprehensive help to complete all components of a college application.
Established in 2010.
The college application process takes time, preparation, and creativity. After seeing too many high school students and their families struggle with the personal essay, I founded College Essay Coaching to help.
My experience as a professional writer and educator can provide guidance and perspective to the dizzying demands and process of college application essays. With coaching, students learn to approach the writing process as a sane, step-by-step undertaking and emerge from their college essay writing experience as more confident writers.
First-person writing is rarely taught in high school English, yet
26% percent of admissions officers deemed the personal essay
"of considerable importance" in admissions decisions according to a 2009 survey by the National Association of College Admissions Counseling. I believe that bright, motivated students can craft great essays. And the difference between a good essay and a great one might just turn a "maybe" into a "yes.

Searching for a job was not easy for me. I was stuck in a job I did not like, but could not devote 100% of my time and attention to searching for a new job. It became more and more difficult as time passed and I realized that no one was responding to the dozens of applications, resumes, and cover letters I had sent out. I was discouraged, and was ready to give up, resigning myself to the same dead end job I was trying to escape. Then I found this service, "Ladders Resumes," and it was truly my savior. First of all, the counselor who helped me with my resume took the time to speak to me. I spent a few hours on the phone with her talking about my goals, my interests, my hobbies, my experience, everything. She was very patient and thorough and she really took her time getting to know me, my background and experiences, and what type of job I ultimately wanted. Within a few days, she forwarded me a draft resume to look over. I was amazed and shocked. She was able to characterize my abilities and experience in a way I couldn't, and didn't think to do. She looked at my previous job experience and was able to pick out and feature the skills that would be valuable and attractive to recruiters and hiring managers. She then scheduled another follow up telephone call and we again went through the resume. She was open to my suggestions and was again very patient. I would have never thought to highlight my travel, my work experience, or my volunteer experience the way she had. My old resume looked like crap compared to the resume my counselor had written for me. It was amazing. She finalized a few things, and I had a brand new professional resume by the end of the week. Sure, at first the thought of paying for a resume or cover letter seemed like an insult to me. But here are the results: I got my first call for an interview after a little more than two weeks, and a job offer within 2 months. Plus, while I was considering that offer, I got 2 more calls to interview. I had been applying on my own for almost 5 months without a response. I was super happy and satisfied with this company and their assistance. They have the expertise to know what hiring managers value and how to associate those skills with your background and experience. They also know how to highlight and feature the skills in your resume. It's like putting on makeup or wearing your favorite shirt...the makeup or shirt that makes you look good and highlights your best attributes. Ladders helps highlight your features and makes you look super attractive to prospective employers.
I spent hours and days to draft my resume a couple of years ago. I thought my resume was pretty good. It was not until I sat down with Maricruz and she took notes of my work history and present work responsibilities. Then she completely transformed my resume into a piece of art. I never thought my resume could look like that. Moreover, I did not realize that my old resume was out there trying to compete with other resumes that professional resume writers had revamped them. Since Maricruz performed her magic on my resume, I have been receiving emails and phone calls for interviews. I am throughly satisfied with her services that I have been mentioning her to all of my colleagues!
It was my first time using writing tutor. Maricruz was really helpful. She helped me proofread my personal statement. I got a lot of inspiration from her suggestions. It was very easy to work with her. Her schedule was flexible and she replied really quick in order to meet my deadline. She is very knowledgeable and had a lot experience helping students with personal statement. Thanks to her help, I got into my dream grad school. The service is definitely worth of money.
When I first met with Maricruz I had a draft of my personal statement prepared but I really was not happy with it. As soon as we started working she had quickly led me into the right direction by laying out the steps to form a coherent personal statement. We ended up scrapping the old essay and forming a new personal statement that I was her pleased with. Maricruz is very knowledgable and knows exactly what the admission committee is looking for. She was always available to meet in person or would rewrite drafts efficiently as soon as I sent them to her. Her work did not end at producing a great personal statement for me, she also helped me completely flip my resume. I just got into grad school thanks to her hard work. I know I will continue to use her for any of my writing needs.
